5 Easy Green Tips!

Published by missjennalynn at 5:55 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

I am going to stress this and stress this because do you know how much waste we go through a day? And not recycle? Before I started caring I was throwing out a garbage bag or two a day full of things I should have been recycling and not throwing away. I am just going to list a few simple things here for you to think about… easy tips to contribute to going green! Everyone can do it.

1. Buy a couple of those reusable bags at grocery store or any other store that you shop at regularly. If I ever get any plastic bags I tend to pile them up and recycle ALL of them when I am finished, that is if I am not using the reusable bags. You can hold so much in them and you don’t have to worry about plastic ending up in a landfill with billions of TONS of waste! One person is said to accumulate 2-5 lbs of trash, that’s A LOT folks.

2. Do you read the newspaper daily? Well if you do, don’t throw them out… recycle them so we can plant more trees and reuse the paper. The more trees, the better we breathe. :D So watch out if you decide to throw out paper, because it can be reused so much, we all know this.

3. Don’t have a recycling bin? Get one! Ask your landlord if you live in an apartment building. Did you know that in England it is mandatory to have a recycling bin? If you live in a house than I suggest looking for one at a local store, or you can even order them online at Amazon or eBay of course.

Or if you really want to go to the trouble, instead of throwing things out use a garbage can of yours for recycling, then find a recycling bin near by. I know there is tons around here.

4. Do you find it convenient buying a bottle of water? Not only are you wasting your money, but you could get a filter for your water if it didn’t taste too good. I know in Saint John the water tends to be DISGUSTING, I won’t even drink it. So instead of buying all these 4L jugs of water and smaller bottles, get yourself a water bottle and a filter, such as a Brita filter. You’ll always have healthy tasting water and you will be saving the environment.

“Between 2002 and 2007, world consumption of bottled water jumped by 7.6 per cent per year, from 130.95 billion litres to 188.8 billion litres.(http://www.cbcnews.ca/news)

Think how much waste that produces? Eep! As some of you may know, there is a plan to eradicate all machines with bottled water in Canada. This wouldn’t be so bad, IF there was filtered, good tasting water. So get on the case Saint John!

5. Buy cleaning products that are more eco friendly, most products have a label like “green” or “eco friendly” of some sort. Because a lot of cleaners contain alcohol, bleach, amonia etc. and these are all quite dangerous for our environment.

If you do not have time to go looking for a special cleaner there is some simple ingredients from your own household that you can use like baking soda, which is good for cleaning your drains with a bit of vinegar, for your bathtub and surrounding tiles as well.

It’s time to start cleaning up this mess that we have made on the earth, and start taking care of our planet. So that’s it for today, more some other time.
